The AI frontier of Masrif

Nine ideas, each with its honest state — and the three refusals that sit above them all. In a product that touches worship, the interesting question is not what AI can do, but what it must never be allowed to mean.

Three refusals, before any feature

No fatwa from a model — ever.
No worship data sold — not to advertisers, not to brokers, not to governments.
No gamified deen — no streak shaming, no prayer leaderboards, no dopamine on obligation.

Nine ideas, honestly labelled

Built-in rule means it constrains the product today; workshop means we're drawing it now; concept means it is designed and owed a build.

Built-in rule

The mufti firewall

No model in Masrif issues a ruling. The assistant answers only from a scholar-certified corpus, cites the source and its school of thought, and anything beyond that corpus is handed to a human scholar with the conversation attached. “I am not a mufti” is not a disclaimer here; it is the architecture.

In the workshop

Zakat autopilot

Your wealth already flows through the dana ledger — with consent, the engine keeps a rolling nisab clock over cash, gold and savings, computes against your state's official authority, and presents one number on one day a year. Not an estimate dressed as certainty: the calculation, its inputs, and the authority it follows, all on screen.

In the workshop

Scam-shielded transfers

Malaysia reported RM2.8 billion in scam losses in 2025, and the government now makes wallets compensate victims when anti-scam controls lapse. So safety is a first-class feature: DuitNow handle verification before the tap, unusual-recipient friction, pattern detection on the ledger — measured in ringgit not lost.

In the workshop

Quiet, on-device adhan

Prayer times and reminders computed from the coarse location your phone already has — never broadcast to a server. This is the direct answer to 2020, when prayer-app location feeds were brokered to data firms and, through them, to US contractors. A worship app's telemetry is a religious census. Ours stays in your pocket.

In the workshop

Tafsir provenance trail

Every answer about a verse walks backwards on tap: verse → classical tafsir → school of thought → which scholar reviewed the passage into our corpus. No paraphrase presented as revelation, no verse quoted without its exegetical chain — the honesty spine applied to the most consequential text a Muslim reads.

Concept

The tajweed ear

Recite into the phone; an on-device model listens at phoneme level — makhraj, elongation, the differences tajweed examiners actually score — and shows you the two words to redo, not a grade. It coaches pronunciation; it never rules on your recitation's validity. That verdict was never software's to give.

Concept

The hafiz engine

Memorization is the oldest spaced-repetition system in the world — a whole ummah has been running sabaq and revision for fourteen centuries. This turns the schedule digital: what to review today so that juz' three is still there in 2035, borrowing the same learning science AnTeraju's five-year memory runs on.

Concept

Halal-flow insights

Your spending classified against Shariah-screened categories; incidental exposure surfaced honestly — the interest your deposit quietly earned this quarter, with the purification amount computed as what it is: an estimate, labelled as one, never a fatwa. The point is a clean heart and cleaner numbers, not a guilt engine.

Concept

Mosque operations copilot

For the jawatankuasa: donation forecasting that says “we don't have enough history to say” when it's true, baitulmal statements that reconcile to the ringgit, and program planning — with attendance kept as an aggregate count. A mosque that knows who sat where on Friday is not a mosque; it's a registry.

Every rule above obeys a finding — the scandals and studies that made them necessary are on the Evidence page.
